When I welcomed my future workshop participants this winter for an introduction to woodcarving, Daniel and Véronique were both captivated by a portrait inspired by Amedeo Modigliani that I had carved from holm oak in 2024. We then decided to devote the five-day workshop in late March–early April to creating portraits based on the same theme.
Véronique and Daniel took the time to browse through catalogs to choose their models. Before the workshop, Véronique created a clay sketch of her project.
We met up at the end of March to begin the challenge under dry, beautiful weather in a workshop that was finally usable after a very rainy winter. We chose two pear wood logs (a fairly uniform wood) to carry out the two projects.
